The pic above is one of my all-time favorite photographs, taken in one of my favorite places on earth.

There is a waterfall in Telluride, Colorado, just outside of town, that freezes in the winter. A short but very steep and slippery hike will get you there, but you may have to cross a few "Danger! Trail Closed!” signs along the way. (Sorry, Town of Telluride!)

Once you arrive at the frozen cascade of water, it's pretty spectacular, but the true magic lies behind it -- on the other side. The water usually melts, drips, and then refreezes itself into a kaleidoscope of different shapes and designs.

I'd recommend bringing crampons and and an ice pick if you have them handy, because getting behind the waterfall can take some careful maneuvering. But once there, you will be greeted by all sorts of wonderment, both abstract and more representational, perhaps like my jellyfish here.
